Dan - here is an example of what has worked for me in the past.

    RECORD CONTAINS 330 CHARACTERS.

When converting from an RPG database to a Cobol database the Cobol
database does not recognize # signs in the field definitions.  I know
there is a variable that will automatically convert these unrecognized
