Consider Linux Mint. It let me keep an old laptop out of the junkyard. No SSD (yet?).

All I have an old P4 PC that can't even move to Win 7 - I suspect that that is not worth the effort of moving to SSD!

Although if i decide to bite the bullet and load Linux on it the maybe ...
