Haven't looked at the Teamviewer site just yet, but am I correct that if

I'm the only one doing the remote support, I would only need to buy a
license for me?

Correct; only one side needs a license. That said, as you've discovered,
the price difference between private use and the lowest cost commercial use
is substantial.
