Don't misunderstand my comments Booth. When I was able to use the Chromecast on two of my home networks it performed beautifully and I was very happy with it and impressed with the price/capability.

But I already had an Apple TV in one location and a Roku in the other. Both were a bit bulky for travel so I bought the Chromecast for travel - because of the way hotel systems work it just will not function in that environment with "messing about". I'm often on a hotel for just a day or two - I need a ply-an-play solution and in that regard only it failed.

I am with Steve on this. It is good to get some feedback from an
experienced techy. I was almost ready to spring for a Chromecast, until
this thread dialed down my expectations.

I rather like them. This is the PC-Tech list and hearing about a new
gadget, or one that's on sale is appropriate. If you can keep up with the
traffic on Midrange-L, RPG-L, etc. then an occasional "deal of the day"
shouldn't impair your productivity more than a fly on the windshield affects
your gas mileage.

Sorry, I'll cut back on them.
