Android gmail app

When I use a browser to access gmail on my laptop I can hit a button to
'select all'. I can also fill a check box to the left and then delete
selected emails. I swear the app is written to encourage you to open
their promotions and whatnot. Our PC tech showed me some way to press and
select but it was very sensitive and often opened up the <expletive
deleted> promotion. For clearing it out I've just been falling back to
the browser on my laptop.
