Because there is not a suitable DNS entry in place behind the VPN/Firewall ?

I use VPN for our system all the time and never us an IP address.

Can't give you details because I din't set it up - but I can find out if nobody else can tell you.

All,

Ignorance question. When I use our VPN to "get to the office" from my home
or elsewhere, why do I have to use IP address (192.168.0.xxx) for RDP
instead of being able to use the server name?

Over the years we've been through 3 different VPNs and this has been true
of all of them. I have always thought that once I VPN'ed in, I was on the
LAN. Yet for RDP I always need to use IP address or it can't find the
server I want. Is it because the PC I am using remotely is not on the
office domain?

Thanks.
