It depends.

Power to your cable "modem" will work locally, but it depends on how
systemic the power break is and if and how fast your cable provider can get
generators to their inline hubs. They have repeaters, amps, etc., in their
system...it's not like the phone company.

I use a Verizon cell usb connection for backup when local ISP craps out...or
I'll just go down the street to the local college and tap into their
system...they've got me working on the biology dept's bug collection so I've
got clearances there as well...

During a recent (fairly lengthy) power outage I got to wondering if a UPS on
my cable modem and router would have allowed me to go on working. I know the
phone system runs even when I have no power to the house but don't know
enough about how cable operates to know how well that survives power cuts.

Anyone know?
