However, internet connectivity is vital to receiving orders, email, and

Wireless has 4G backup connectivity that goes somewhere in the chain of
equipment. I don't know if it's before or after the router as I have only
talked to the sales rep so far. She doesn't know any tech details but just
knows it works great and everybody loves it. :)

Anybody know how such a connection would work if Comcast went down? (Other
than speed, that is. I know it would be slower.) We have 5 static IPs and
DNS would still have to point here, right?
blahblahblah.dilgardfoods.comwould still have to get to IP address
111.222.333.444 whether Comcast was
up or not.

This is probably going to be a hard nut to crack.

If you used a very intelligent DNS provider, you might be able to set something up so that, if your main internet connection went down, it provided the IP of a backup connection instead.

But DNS information is cached, so that probably wouldn't help much.

If the ability to receive orders is critical ... I would suggest you move your order receiving functionality to one of the massively redundant application service providers (Google, Amazon, etc) and have it receive the orders for you and send them to your internal system.

That way, if your connection went down, the service provider could queue orders up until it could connect.
