Or Cisco just recently.

What did Cisco? If I heard about that, I don't remember it.

Personally I had a SonicWall router, which I replaced with a Linux
system that is set up to do routing exactly the way that *I* want it,
not what some router manufacturer thinks I ought to want. Of course
I'm not doing any wireless so I don't have those concerns [yet]. Just
plain ol' wired ethernet connections:

cablemodem <--> router
router <--> server
router <--> switch <--> two desktop systems

(The two desktop systems are actually in different subnets even though
they share the same physical connection to the router.)
