David,

I was under the impression that ALL wireless broadband plans, with the
exception of the iPhone, were capped.

If you mean wireless broadband plans for something like an aircard,
Cradlepoint router, or Mifi style hot spot, I think that is true of
everything except Sprint's 4G plan which has unlimited 4G and a 5Gb cap on
3G usage per month.

However, both Sprint and Verizon allow unlimited data 3G data usage on an
untethered 3G smartphone. And Verizon allows unlimited tethering via a Palm
Pre Plus or Pixi Plus, but charges extra for (official, non-rooted)
tethering on all other smartphones. Sprint has unlimited 4G tethering on
the Evo for an extra $10.

AT&T doesn't offer unlimited data on anything, to my knowledge.
Grandfathered iPhones get to keep the 5Gb cap, but newer accounts (since
June or so) must select between a 250MB cap ($15) or 2Gb cap ($25).

I think.
