sjl - You would need a PC with a high-speed 'net connection. Where it is in
your house wouldn't matter as long as it gets sufficient bandwidth.

Tom - As to loss of service, besides our home line, both my wife & I have
cell phones so we already have double redundancy.

All - If you do not normally have a PC on 24x7 then the added electricity
usage for Magic Jack would eat into the savings v. Vonage or any other telco
provider. Keeping a PC running 24x7 will cost up to about $10 a month
depending on the machine & your electric rates.

_spare_ PC available. (A "hot" spare would be nice.)

Loss of phone service where I live could be deadly. And the life of
a PC is far from guaranteed.
