It staggers me the amount of garbage that gets left around.

I'm not making any excuses for IE, believe me. But one of the problems is that the default temp internet files sizing was established when drives were _much_ smaller. I believe the default is 10% of the drive, which made more sense when drives were 40GB and connections were 56K. However, now that drives are 500G and we've all got broadband that default doesn't make sense. It actually takes a while to check 50G of cache to see if you have the file needed, you can download it faster. I've see marked improvements in IE when you drop the temp file size down to south of 4G.
