So far Pre does not run Palm OS or Windows Mobile applications so it's a platform change regardless of whether or not it's a vendor or carrier change. I say so far as I expect either Palm or a 3rd party to provide a Palm OS emulator within the first few months of Pre's prelease.

Verizon is notorious for being slow to support new/groundbreaking phones with the only recent exception being the Blackberry.

Personally I've been on Sprint for several years and have no problems with them as a carrier. I'm also a long-time Palm OS/Treo user and have built a suite of applications to help with productivity and entertainment. Pre looks like the logical next step but I will be saddened to leave Palm OS and my application suite behind.

My current Treo is almost three years old & is showing signs of age/usage so I do want to upgrade. I will have to compare Pre to the rest of the Smartphone market when the time comes to upgrade. Our corporate standard is Blackberry on AT&T and I'm not thrilled by either. But anything that does Activesync will work and that includes Pre.

So then the question stands, which technology do you use and standardize on
or do you buy a new vendor each time the new model comes out? The argument
with Verizon/Palm is that people should be able to upgrade their existing
handsets...from treo to Pre or whatever...not have to switch from palm to
blackberry to .....

BTW, W-7 comes with it's own antivirus. M$ says "hey, it comes with it" to
which I replied, "It shouldn't have to have it if it were solidly built!"

Oh well, I guess I've been spoiled with not having to need a antivirus on
iSeries...too bad IBM is letting it decline...

Bob,

Have they actualy shown you a Palm Pre? From what I've read, it sounds
pretty good. Hope Verizon gets it soon.

It is starting exclusive to Sprint in the states. I hear there is a GSM
version for foreign markets, but I haven't heard any rumors about how long
Sprint's exclusive deal lasts. But from what I hear, I don't even know if
Sprint can ship the phone ahead of June. :(

And I have not heard any firm rumors on pricing either. Too early to tell
if this will have significant market impact.
