Besides poor performance during bad weather, latency, and bandwidth
problems, and download speed limits with satellite service, I had /already/
mentioned DirectPC (I forgot that DirectPC was bought by Hughes and is now
called HughesNet) as being a rather expensive alternative, compared to other
methods of connecting to the internet, plus the basic service on HugheNet is
at least twice as expensive as basic DSL.
If you have been keeping up with recent news, I like the idea of new ISP
services that could use the 'white spaces' in the TV spectrum to wirelessly
deliver broadband internet service cheaply nationwide. I'm hoping that the
FCC does the right thing for consumers.
