Their game has absolutely taken over the teen and pre-teen world.

Ya. My 12- and 16- year olds.

I am simply having to learn enough about RPG to realize the dangers,

What are you talking about? I code RPG every day. ;-)

Is anyone else having to limit their kid's time here?

Yes. With the 16-y.o., we are trying to redirect interests. The 12-y.o.
has a healthier balance.

Should 5th graders have typing class and computer class?

Well, yes, presuming the other basics (3 R's, etc.) are already being
taught. What makes up the computer class? Programming? Learning Micro$oft
products?

and if they
finish their assignments early - be allowed to assemble in a virtual
world on runescape?

During school time? No. And, in our household, schoolwork *always* has
priority over online leisure time.

Do we realize that 10/11 year old kids these days know the advantages
of using different user agents such as firefox/firebug and hacking the
onlline world?

I'll have to ask. I *do* know that my kids are aware of other players
they're playing against using cheats, but I've not seen that they themselves
"cheat".

Extremely cool child-hood huh?

Hey, we had Pong, Space Invaders, and Galaga. I still have lottery-winner
mindset to fill my basement with all the classic pinball machines of the
70's.
