Application is not really a well defined term. In your case, i would
lump all those together under the term "web server with embedded DB".

The Problem's with Windows usually start when you want to run a
DC/Exchange on a same Machine (which is supported but not
recommended). Especially DCs are single purpose machines, you'll run
into all sorts of wacky problems if you try to run anything else on
them.

Also, running Exchange 2007 and SQL Server on the same machine
is(was?) an unsupported scenario, etc. pp. OTOH, OCS 2007 requires SQL
and the CDR role to run on the same machine. Also, a minimal OCS
rollout requires two servers (Edge, Standard), and a bigger rollout
requires even more (Edge, Enterprise DB, Enterprise Server Audio,
Enterprise Server Video, etc. (around 5 instances).

Also, add a lot of application that use SQL Express, where their
installer can't deal with it if there's already a SQL Express Instance
on the machine (this has gotten a lot better, though).
