But is that over plain old telephone service, Glenn?
I do that regularly too, but I also have a high speed ISP connection and so I bought the Vonage Voice Over Internet Protocol service for long distance calls and to provide a second line. That all works really well. However when I plug my modem into the Vonage phone outlet on my Linksys Router it all goes flibbidty gibbetity.

(If you pay more than $25/month for long distance services, consider http://www.vonage.com )

With the proper fax software I send faxes out of my PC all the time to the phone.

I also have an all in one printer, scanner, fax and can merge a document from the PC with papers in the printer(as fax) and they go out as one fax using the printers' fax modem and phone lines.

Happy New Year

But can you use your PC Modem for faxes and for dial-out to computers?

This particular AS/400 was installed in 1998 and so far as I know, has
not had a PTF applied or change made in this century. Putting it on the
Internet is way beyond their needs or capabilities.

I have Comcast and Vonage at home. I use the VPN to get at whatever I want
to get at in the office. I absolutely love it because I can apply PTFs and
IPL the System i from home while watching a movie and consuming a beverage
of my choice.

Incidentally, my internet speed with Comcast is consistently at 20mps or
more.
