I'm guessing the video adapter is integrated on the mobo, and I'm

if taking out and reseating the RAM might be worth a shot. I take the
laptop home every night, so it gets normal jostling. They did a memory
upgrade on this laptop a while ago (replaced two 512MBs with two 1GBs),
and
I am certain that the "snow" problems didn't start until after that
upgrade
(although how soon after, I can't recall).

You might try my special technique of picking it up around 4 inches over
the desktop and dropping it (while turned off).

Beat ya to that thought, but not action. Actually, I used to do this with
an IBM luggable back in the 90's. But this would be my last course of
action on this laptop.

I may have a "workaround": Never power the danged thing off! I usually put
it into sleep mode. I got into this habit because it would take "forever"
between logging on and getting a usable desktop. So, I avoid rebooting at
all costs. And, sure enough, I powered down on Tuesday night, but don't
remember what I was thinking. I left it on last night and this morning, all
is well! No snow whatsoever.

BTW, I managed to get to one of the RAM chips, pulled it out, and reseated
it, but this did not improve anything. To get to the other RAM chip, I have
to pull the keyboard out, and I didn't have the right-sized phillips
screwdriver to do that.
