Thinkpad T61 wireless connectivity problem

Wife got a new TP T61. The wireless connection was pre-configured through
the MS network/internet connections applications and all was fine for a
few months. Then then wireless connection started dropping, which was
remedied using the repair option, but after a few times even the repair
connection didn't re-establish the wireless connection. So we disabled
that connection and went with the Thinkpad wireless connnection utility
and things seemed to be back to normal.

Then the other night while she was trying to establish a remote desktop
connection we found that RDC wouldn't connect for some reason. We
determined that the TP Wireless config was using a dhcp assigned address
so we changed that to the static ip address assigned to the original MS
wireless configuration and she could then connect with RDC.

Now the weird part of this is she can connect to her office via
tcp/iseries access, her internet chat client works, RDC works, but her
connection to the internet from a browser fails and she cannot receive her
email.

My connection on my pc going through the same router (to our isp) is fine
- I can connect to the internet, get email, chat, vpn to the office etc,
while she can only chat and connect to her office but can't get her email
or a browser to connect to the net.

We're stumped. Any ideas what could be responsible?
