So run Linux. Or BSD. Or some other free operating system that handles multitasking properly.
Or buy a Mac.
You may not be able to run OS/2, but nothing is forcing you to run Windows. (Well, other than IBM, who seems to want to make absolutely sure that every System i person runs Windows -- but if you don't use this laptop for business, then you'll be just fine without it.)
