Well, QOS (Quality Of Service) is (AFAIK) for outbound connections ...
it basically gives certain connections priority over others. I use it
on my VOIP. I give the MAC address of my telephone adapter the highest
priority so that other traffic won't effect the voice quality.

I don't know if QOS applies to inbound ... but I guess it could.

So I'm beginning to wonder if I should investigate a better quality router
for home. Any ideas for suggestions for an upgrade path that isn't
terribly expensive?

I've always used Linksys routers and had good luck with them ...
although I don't try to host services on them. For midrange.com I use
Covad SDSL service with a Netopia router.

You might want to consider getting a WRT54GL and upgrading the firmware
... some of the 3rd party firmwares for the 54G are pretty nice.
