since it is valid XML that you can't code a DTD to accurately represent
it!

Well, that's one of the reasons that some people prefer XML Schemas over
DTDs. Schemas give you a lot more control over the format of your XML, but
it comes at a price (both in initial complexity and in additional processing
overhead).
