<6 days later -- can't believe I've been off that long!>

How is it that you're dealing with spyware immediately after a scratch
install? Or are you talking about Microsoft's WGA phone-home? Assuming
you're completely offline until after the SP2 install *and* a firewall is
set up, you shouldn't be seeing spyware.

Do you have any kind of firewall set up? I will defer to much more
knowledgeable people here, but I sit behind a firewall/router appliance and
have never had problems with spyware.

Thanks for the reply. Your suggestion is exactly what I tried, and it
worked. I installed SP2 and all went swimmingly.

Now I am trying to get rid of spy ware and clean the registry. That is
not going swimmingly.  :)
