Pretty much every platform has a thriving client-side Java community. You might want to wander over to SourceForge to check that out. Just as an example, let's take, say, the most popular IDE other than (arguably) Visual Studio. It's Eclipse! Not sure what your definition of thriving is, but Java is everywhere, from mainframes to micro devices. Joe
