Rob,

How does one clear off all data on the existing phone?

The standard method for doing a "hard reset" under Palm OS is to press and
hold the power button while you poke the reset hole on the back (under the
battery cover on a 650, but not sure on a 600). Release the reset, wait 3
seconds and *then* release the power button.

On the screen you should get a confirmation message asking if you want to
erase all data. Press the Up side of the 5-way navigator to confirm erasing
the memory contents, or the Down side to abort the clearing.

That won't affect any data stored on the phone's SIM card, but I assume
you'll be moving that to the replacement phone anyway.

To transfer the palm data to the new phone, the easiest thing is one of the
many third-party backup programs which will save the contents on an SD card,
where you can then restore it on the new device. These will pick up some
things which won't be transferred by doing a Hot Sync to a pc, followed by
assigning that Hot Sync user to a new palm.
