svchost consuming cpu -- PCTECH

What does it mean when svchost.exe is consuming 80-90% of cpu?
about 60 second response time. 
nothing else running (well Zone Alarm & Norton)
just rebooted - same thing
had to reboot when mouse stopped moving & everything locked.
Has not happened like this recently.
