You can VPN in to your office via a broadband or dial-up. That's just the
medium. Our VPN set up offers us the ability to connect vial broadband or
dial-up. The dial-up VPN isn't through our own ISP. We dial into a number
that lets us log onto the network. I don't think that your employer should
pay for your broadband but they also shouldn't force you to provide your
own dial-up. If you need Internet access to get connected then they should
provide connectivity for you or anybody using the on-call laptop. If for
no other reason, it would assure them that you always should have a way to
connect when you need to. It doesn't have to be fancy but it does have to
work.

Everything everyone said had sense in it... right up to here. Told by

They'd never even know and couldn't enforce it.

Confusion reigns. <g> In my conversation with my manager, I was told that
I
couldn't "dial in". I think I was remembering the old days when I could
call a modem at my employer's, forgetting all about the dial-up ISP
services. So, yes, I think a dial-up ISP would work just dandy at an
easier-to-swallow price point.

OK, so more food for thought, but I'm still gonna push my employer on this.
