Kaspersky, Fprot, Nod32 are all fairly highly regarded.  Go to
gripe2ed.com and look for the most recent AV poll (probably a few months
ago).

I am looking at different network server antivirus programs and the AVG
server product looks pretty attractive price wise. Since this thread was
close to what I was looking into, has anyone given it a try or have a
non-symantec or mcafee recommendation?

McAfee Enterprise for AV and probably shortly for anti-spyware as 
their AS detection is a snap-in to the AV app.  The crappy Windows 
internal firewall at the moment is sufficing, although I hope to get

Haven't I heard that McAfee home products are crap?  Even though I could
get McAfee or Norton AV F.A.R., I've avoided them like the plague for
the past few years.  I have the personal experience with Norton AV, but
only anecdotal evidence on McAfee.  But their enterprise AV product is
good, eh?

At home I use the free version of Grisoft AVG for AV and nothing for a

firewall, although I'm contemplating the Kerio suite as I already use 
Sunbelt's CounterSpy anti spyware app.



Of all people, I guess I'm surprised that you don't have a firewall at
home.  Are you using a router firewall and not any software firewall?

(If anyone can suggest a replacement for Microsoft's Wireless  Network 
Connection app, which is a total POS, please advise.)

Yeah, but we use the Enterprise product.  I'm not saying it's perfect,
but it does seem better.  We also manage updates via McAfee's EPO engine
vs. having the PCs autoupdate against McAfee's site all the time.

Router firewall.  Because I practice relatively safe surfing, I'm not
too worried about it.  Ditto for my wife for the most part.  We also
have very little in the way of valuable data on our PCs; my browser
cache is probably the most 'dangerous' thing there.

I used to run Tiny Personal Firewall 2.x (which is now Kerio) but lost
the installer after I had to reload my PC.  I know I can still get it
but just haven't bothered.

I find I use my PCs at home less and less over time.  I'm becoming more
of a typical user and less of a hobbyist/enthusiast.  I think I get my
fill at the office and by the time my 8-10 hours are up I don't want to
stare at a screen anymore even if it is for entertainment vs. work.

WGA has been known to disable legit XP installs.

If I'm following this, it sounds like MS is deliberately disabling legit
XP installs, as opposed to an overly-ambitious, but well-intentioned,
effort.
Would MS stoop that low?  MS does a lot of sucky things that are
probably legal, but I would consider that type of activity to be
criminal.

I personally don't know whether to chalk this up to a marketing effort

On my Treo (just got the 700p a week ago):
Menu - O = Modem sync prefs
Menu - L = LANSync Prefs
Menu - P = Primary PC Setup
Menu - D = Conduit setup
Menu - S = Connection setup
 
For cabled syncing (cable or cradle, there should be an option for
Cradle/Cable under the onscreen button.

Does the cable or cradle have a hotsync button?  If so, hit that and see
if it'll work.
