Dave, If the access points were properly deployed I wouldn't think that signal
strength would be a problem
I had a lot of problems in hotels and elsewhere with my internal wifi on my laptop, even when others around me connected fine. So I wanted better reception for being elsewhere, and wanted to use WPA on my home wifi. The reception of the USB wifi finder is way better than my laptop was, and suits me fine. It just isn't as good as some, if reception is a primary consideration. Doug
