Dave (and Dan),

That does sound cool. Do you remember what the model number is?

Linksys WUSBF54G (Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with Wi-Fi Finder)

that you bought it for the wireless adapter and the got the standalone
search capability as a bonus.

The internal Wifi in my laptop has very poort reception, and only supports
WEP instead of WPA. So I wanted a replacement adapter with WPA and better
signal strength. This adapater is still ont as strong as some, but suits me
fine. While there are lots of Wifi finders available, I like this one
because it has a LCD which gives me signal strength, sorts them by signmal
strength, lets me see the SSID to get a clue if it is the coffee shop or
other intentional provider vs someone who doesn't know how to secure their
network, etc.
