Steven Vaughan-Nichols isn't thrilled with them:

He thinks it's "just groupware", but that for collaborative work, email lists using Mailman are the best.

He used the wikipedia as an example, since they now have to edit various postings and have apparently blocked updates to some.
I think the "non-controversial" subjects and articles are "generally" helpful sometimes, like for a quick look, but no one should count on them for final-word accuracy.
