We did it with our work phones about 6 years ago.  Kept the same numbers and
went with KMC Telecom.  Complete disaster - they totally misrepresented what
they could do and we had to jump through hoops to get the numbers back to
Verizon.

Our area code is 260.  Work phone exchange is 422, home phone exchange is
639.  Vonage says 422 can be moved, 639 cannot.  Both are local Fort Wayne
exchanges.  Strange, huh?

Right now I have Comcast for cable ($59) and broadband ($40), total cost
$99/mo.  Verizon phone bill roughly $40/mo.  Verizon is putting in FiOS
(Fiber) broadband to this area.  Residential FiOS is $30/mo and is 5 times
faster than Comcast.  Ideal longterm would be Verizon FiOS broadband ($30),
Vonage VOIP ($15), and satellite which I think I can get cheaper than
Comcast cable alone.  Problem is though, because I'm outside the city limits
by 3 miles, I don't know if FiOS will ever reach us.  :(

But I can still do Vonage.
