I thought you could configure Skype to do the same basic functional stuff as Vonage, but only tech-geeky folks could do it themselves. Vonage appears to be ready-to-run right out of the package. Skype, being based on PC-to-PC calls, is free, but you can place calls to landlines and cell phones for about 2¢ per minute in the U.S. Skype *does* make a point of mentioning that "Skype is not a telephony replacement service and cannot be used for emergency dialing." Based on my usage, I'd probably go with Vonage Basic service. Unfortunately, they're not yet in our area code. Still, if you have faraway friends who have broadband, Skype sounds like the easy way to go. I'll have to look into this more. Great discussion, guys! - Dan
