Well, it certainly isn't my server ... you are not communicating
directly with my mail server at at any point.

Well, it's obvious that you're using the wrong mail server when you are
using the wireless.  You have a few options that I can think of.

1. Find out what mail server you should use with the wireless provider
and configure your mail program to use that mail server.

2. Talk to your DSL provider and see if they allow you to use their SMTP
server from outside the network.  Some DSL providers will use
authenticated SMTP to allow you to post from outside their network.
