Oh I know Dan. I don't ever try to make any major diagnosis over the phone but just have folks try some basic stuff. We just couldn't arrange a convenient time and he wanted to try some stuff so I figured why not. As for Windows, I can go along with what your "re-wordage" (THAT was awesome, eh ?_). I stuck his hard drive into another PC last night as the second drive in the box and fire it up. It is SLOWER than heck booting and eventually comes up and shows it sees an 80GB and a 40GB drive. F1 and on we go. Windows XP Pro eventually comes up and only sees the 80GB drive. So the PC at love level sees the drives, Knoppix sees it and Windows doesn't. Got to love Windows :-) Chuck -----Original Message----- From: pctech-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pctech-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dan Sent: Monday, November 21, 2005 4:31 PM To: PC Technical Discussion for iSeries Users Subject: Re: [PCTECH] Problem with Windows XP halting at startup... If it gets more complex than "Is it plugged in?", usually I just say I have to see it. So I stick my Knoppix CD in and as usual I can see the drive just fine, > Windows SUCKS, and on we go. > Ya know, my eldest (16) started making "Windows Sucks" an all-too-common expression in our household, and our second eldest (14) was starting to pick up on it. So, I "firmly" recommended he find another way of expressing his angst for Windoze. So, now it's "Windows Vacuums". I love it; it's fast becoming part of my lexicon. - Dan
