Its been a while, but here's what I remember. The product key didn't work with XP Pro after I installed the upgrade, but to make matters worse it also did not work when I attempted to reinstall XP Home that came with the laptop --------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.martinvt.com --------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: PC Technical Discussion for iSeries Users Date: 10/13/05 11:09:02 To: PC Technical Discussion for iSeries Users Subject: Re: [PCTECH] switching WinXP licenses on two PCs Booth, What didn't work? Was it the Key/ID that was causing the problem, or the activation? When he said "Phone Home" ID, I assumed he meant "Product Key", correct? It is my understanding that when you activate a computer, you activate the Product Key. When you activate a Product Key it is tied to that particular computer's hardware. You can keep re-installing and activating Windows on the same computer repeatedly as long as the hardware doesn't change and you use the same key. It shouldn't matter how you install Windows, as long as you give it the correct Product Key when you do the installation. >From what I understand, the Product Key is not tied to the Installation CD in any way. Other than it being _a valid_ key. Man, that gets confusing... :) If I'm wrong, somebody please say so. Mike pctech-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx wrote on 10/13/2005 10:54:01 AM: > I am not sure it will work.
