Gateway has never done anything to impress me either.  Dell, on the other
hand, has been OK.  We had a Dell service guy here once.  He didn't talk
much and left without telling us what he did but he got the job done.  We
may have a support contract but I can't say for sure.

The model that we use is the Dell Latitude.  I believe that the Insperion
is their other line which may be more consumer-oriented if I remember
correctly.

Thanks for the Dell information folks. We have had some salesmen with Dells
and Gateways and I, unfortunately, have not been real impressed. Gateway is
just plain a nightmare, equipment and support. Dell was better to an extent
but any issue was "send it in an we'll replace the hard drive" when it was
pretty obvious the problem was with a driver, etc. I had several folks that
had Dell's say they had had it them...
