I set up GoToMyPC.com for a friend of mine. It works as described and he loves it. It requires that you download & install a client on both the local and remote PC for it to work. Other options include LogMeIn.com (which is free for basic remote access) which uses java to do its stuff. I've used it and it works great. Webex also has a free remote access service at http://www.mywebexpc.com/index.php . It only works with MS Internet Explorer, so Firefox/Mozilla devotees need not apply. I haven't tried it yet.
