Chuck, I do know that that the more "home remedies" you try, the greater your odds of the professionals NOT being able to recover the data. Hooking the drive up as a slave in another machine is pretty safe. But I'd be concerned that while putting it in the freezer might work...but if it does not work, does it make things worse? My support folks are tired of hearing it, but the first thing you should do when you find yourself in a hole is STOP DIGGING! Freezing might be digging with a back hoe. On the other hand, if the decision is made that the data is not worth professional recovery services, then try freezing as you have nothing to loose. JMHO, Bob
