MS Word seeing deleted lines -- PCTECH

I received a ms word doc and when opened
it has in a right column, sort of a table, with every deleted text and 
table entries ever done in the doc, so much that the doc is unreadable.
Any way to turn it off?  I have MS Office Pro Word 2003. Have 
recent MS Office updates.
