Hi Peter, I don't think you can, though there may well be some trick I don't know. You can pipe the output of FINDSTR to a file, but I don't think you can include the name of the file being searched. I'm also not sure how you'd loop through all the files in the folder -- that's where I would have used something like qbasic ;-). If you just want files whose _names_ contain "ABC123", then John Ross's suggestion would work: dir dirname\*ABC123*.* /b /s > filename.txt or alternatively: dir dirname\ /b /s > filename.txt findstr "ABC123" filename.txt > filnam2.txt Good luck!
