Do you have the firewall turned on in your XP Pro?

Start, My Network Places, View network connections, Right click on the local 
area connection for your LAN, Properties, 
1. Advanced tab.  Make sure you do not have a check mark under Internet 
Connection Firewall.  
2. General tab. TCP/IP Properties, Advanced, Options, TCP/IP filtering 
Properties Make sure you do not have a check mark in Enable TCP/IP filtering 
and all three do have a dot in Permit All.

Check Ping in both directions.  What IP address does each PC have?
