what is special about port 135? how many ports are there? About 64000 of
them? If you disable the ports then you disable their use, thus crippling
the use of the internet.

My own opinion is that MS thinks that is a good thing. Then, when the time
comes we can all be "saved" by their extensions and badda badda bing, we are
absorbed.

That's for sure. According to my 800 page (anti) hacking manual "no admin
worth squat would allow port 135" and goes on to note programs to check for
and kill port 135 use.

And yet a MAJOR company here in Indianapolis had 1200 SERVERS knocked down
because they "make MAJOR use of port 135 for all kinds of stuff around here"
per a friend who handles the LPAR AS/400's there...

Unreal.
