One of the PC trade mags had a tip on which file you should save off that has this info in. This is mostly a concern if you dual boot/install your PC. You can install once and configure it how you want it. Register with Microsoft. Save off this file. Do the second install to a different bootable partition. Configure it the way you want. Then copy the saved file into place. This way you don't have to register with MS the second install on the same PC. If anybody is interested in this tip, let me know and I will dig it up. I usually dual boot/install my PC so that I have a clean work partition and a second 'play' one that I can mess with and install test software on. This way I don't have to worry about mucking up the important main partition. -- Scott Johnson > -----Original Message----- > From: pctech-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx > [mailto:pctech-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx]On > Behalf Of Adam Lang > Sent: Tuesday, August 05, 2003 3:20 PM > To: PC Technical Discussion for iSeries Users > Subject: Re: [PcTech] choosing an OS and getting comfy with a new pc > > > You have only so many hardware changes before you have to > reactivate XP. > But no point arguing it because you are eventually going to > have to go to XP > anyway. > > "I can probably have > > >my choice of OS " > > Should I even make a licensing comment? > > As for applications, just check to see if they run on XP. > All the main > stream ones I saw him mention will work fine. >
