Thanks, and thanks to all who have contributed advice.

I'm in for sFTP now. This is major, as it's actually my third attempt at
doing sFTP. The others were years ago. No one could tell me anything about
anything, so I hit a brick wall of incomprehension both times. I brow-beat
the first requester into accepting regular FTP and convinced the second one
to accept email/attachment. This time however it's a "corporate" directive
and no escape (but no support either).

The two last problems were: 1. My instinctive assumption that SSH would
eventually lead me to somewhere I could key commands (dir, etc.), but as
per this answer that was never going to happen, and, 2. The passive
attitude of the other side: In the end I had to insist that everything be
cleared out and new setup be done for the nominated IBM user id with the
new keys and no prefixes attached to the name and no password. Then, sFTP
worked fine. All my setup/keys were correct from the start.

Got there in the end, and that's what counts. Thanks again for the
support.
