IDK...

Auto start jobs simple start automatically...

Where-as pre-start jobs restart automatically if they get killed, also the
OS automtaically starts additional ones if needed or ends extra ones.

It be really nice to tie my own prestart job to a data queue or
something...instead of rolling my own monitoring system.

But apparently that's not available (see my other post)

In that case you’ll need a job description with the program to run. In
effect they are very similar.
