Thanks also Jim.

I created the .profile file as per Kevin's link as:

# detect if we're in a PASE shell/QSYS.LIB/QSHELL.LIB/UNAME.PGM >
/dev/null 2>&1
if [ $? != 0 -a "$SHELL" != "/QOpenSys/usr/bin/bash" ]then
exec /QOpenSys/usr/bin/bashfi

but /QOpenSys/usr/bin/bash does not exist.

I can see that QOpenSys/pkgs/bin/bash DOES exist - should I be running
that? and if so, would it mean amending both lines above that refer to
bin/bash?

thanks

Thanks very much Kevin ( and Jesse ) for your helpful and quick
responses!

That's much better!

My first attempt at creating the .profile file was a fail, (garbage in my
terminal session after login) I'd guess it's a ccsid thing as I created
in
from the iSeries using edtf.

Running bash worked though.

best regards,
C

Subject: [IBMiOSS] SSH from mac
Date: Fri, Mar 29, 2019 12:36 PM

Hi All,

apologies in advance if this is a stupid question...

When I run SSH from terminal in my mac to IBMi, it works fine but
when I
try to repeat commands with arrow up (for example) I just get some
control
characters e.g ^[[A

Typing /qopensys/pkgs/bin/python3 ..... gets old fast.

Presumably I need to do some setup / config somewhere?

thanks kindly in advance,
Craig
