Why is that the best you can hope for? You already said you found
XlsxWriter to be easy and powerful. You also were able to connect to
the database. Those are all the ingredients you need! Indeed, if you
can get that simple example working at all, then almost by definition
you can expand upon it and refine it.

So many possibilities!

If you're not already doing so, I encourage you to experiment with
Python on your local computer (whether Windows, Mac, or Linux). You
can explore more possibilities more easily that way. You will probably
also find that direct communication between your local computer and
your i through Python is especially fruitful (and fun).
