misunderstood what I meant. When I said "built-in" I was referring to
the server that comes with Node.js. But more generally, I was talking
about any server that is built into a Web framework (such as Ruby on
Rails or Django). Neither Apache nor Nginx fits that description.

To be clear, you WANT to use Nginx and/or Apache, and neither of them
are built-in servers, in the sense of "built-in" that I am talking
about.

And all I said was that you would typically use Node.js *in
conjunction* with Nginx and/or Apache. I didn't say anything about
CGI.
