Thanks Rob,
DSPSYSVAL QCTLSBSD is QCTL
DSPSYSVAL QCONSOLE is QCONSOLE.
At his point I'm trying to get QCTL to be online at IPL. Then get QCTL01 to stay offline at IPL, or just remove it.
If there is no place to change QCTL to online at ipl, I will have to delete and recreate.
I suppose I could change the QCTLSBSD to CTL01, unless QCTL is sort of a mandatory default used by other things. I'm guessing the name is not all that important since they allow a flexible setting in QCTLSBSD.
I don't have a DSP01. Maybe I need to create it and put it under QCTL and not use QCONSOLE for an everyday role.
Just trying to not find out the hard way, not that the technique does not have its strong points.

QCONSOLE is only for special IPLs.
Normally for system console is some derivative of DSP01* something, based on system value QDEVNAMING something.
See also system value QCTLSBSD.

Good Day All,
My starting question was - How do I change the controller QCTL to be online at IPL on Power 8 @ 7.3?
CHGCTLLWS does not give the option.
I have both a QCTL and a QCTL01 ( both 6A59 ). The 01 is online at IPL the other is not. But the QCTL is listed as the controlling SBS and has the console attached. So I am wanting switch the 'online at IPL' and maybe remove one.
Both display Resource Name of CTL01. I guessing I should only have 1, perhaps the other was a migration carry over.
Without QCTL/QCONSOLE being online @ IPL, I get console issues.
Perhaps keep the CTL01 that already is online at IPL, and just move QCONSOLE to that? Maybe QCTL needs to stay for defaults?
I'm sure there are all kinds of 'look out' warnings with this.
Hints anyone. Thanks
